🌎🫂Pick a State. 🏡This is Homeland Security: Leading the Shift in Resilience with Vision and Alignment
Greetings Lovelies,
I’m taking in ALL that’s shifting while sitting in Kingdom Territory.
For nearly two decades, I’ve had the honor of sitting at the crossroads where federal priorities meet local realities. From launching logistics operations in the aftermath of Katrina to leading global transformation strategies across continents, I’ve remained committed to one unwavering principle: alignment creates momentum.
Now, with FEMA’s new direction—streamlining disaster recovery, accelerating access to aid, and elevating state and local leadership—we are entering a pivotal season in homeland security. And Virginia is ground zero for what’s next.
Having served at both federal and local levels—and knowing my home roots—I understand how to translate policy into power and connection into community impact. We grow people, business, and community around my way.
The Role of Resilience Has Changed—So Must We
Gone are the days when federal agencies alone held the keys to disaster recovery. FEMA’s new framework places more responsibility—and more opportunity—into the hands of state and local governments. And with that shift comes a powerful opening for the private sector to step up, fill the gaps, and co-create sustainable, scalable solutions.
Whether you’re in tech, infrastructure, healthcare, housing, data analytics, or logistics—this is your call to action.
FEMA’s shift is not just a procedural change—it’s an economic, political, and operational pivot. With new contracts, flexible funding mechanisms, and pre-positioned resources being decentralized, corporations now have direct access to help states build capacity and deliver outcomes.
This is not just emergency management.
This is strategic homeland development.
My Perspective: Cool, Bold, and Grounded in Service
Throughout my career, I’ve worn many hats:
- Certified Contracting Officer and Project Manager at DHS
- Emergency Management Specialist at FEMA during major hurricanes
(Planning Section Chief, Operations Section Chief, RSF Coordinator, Housing Czar, Change Manager, and more) - Co-lead of national recovery strategies in health, housing, and economic resilience
- Designer of equitable public-private partnerships in disaster zones
- Now, a global business strategist helping communities build legacy-focused, sustainable systems
From U.S. Army tech infrastructure to faith-based housing after disaster to international resilience models in Africa—my work has always focused on building systems that work for those who need them most.
A New Chapter: Local Power, National Impact, Private Sector Innovation
With FEMA prioritizing state-level ownership of disaster recovery, this is the moment for the private sector to reimagine its role—not as afterthought or vendor, but as strategic partner.
Let’s be real: states need help. They’re being asked to deliver results that used to be federally managed, and many lack the internal capacity to move quickly, especially after a crisis. That’s where YOU come in.
If your business can:
- Help design climate-resilient infrastructure
- Modernize data systems for recovery tracking
- Deliver clean water or mobile health solutions
- Develop digital equity programs for impacted youth
- Manage project logistics or build contractor networks
- Provide housing, shelters, or smart mobility systems
…there are new contracts, grants, and public-private partnerships on the table right now. States can procure directly. Regional coalitions are being formed. And corporate leaders who move with vision and speed will win market share, impact, and legacy.
What’s Next? Build Regional Hubs of Innovation
In Virginia and beyond, we must:
- Build state-level readiness BEFORE disaster strikes
- Train leaders in resilience-centered systems thinking
- Co-design recovery ecosystems that align people, policy, and profit
- Invest in cross-sector alliances that embed equity and innovation
- Shift corporate mindset from “wait for RFP” to “design the solution”
This isn’t just recovery. This is reinvention.
This is what I call Royal Resilience—the mindset that we protect not only land and infrastructure, but lives, legacies, and futures.
Still in the Game—and Leading from the Front
This new chapter of emergency management isn’t for the passive. It’s for the bold.
For those who understand both the boardroom and the boots-on-the-ground.
As someone who has done both, I’m not just watching this evolution—I’m leading it.
So to the federal partners, state leaders, local innovators, and corporate allies:
This is your opening. Pick a state. Show up. Co-create. Expand your business and your impact.
Let’s build resilient communities that don’t just bounce back—but leap forward.
Let’s build the future of homeland security. Together.
I’m still in the game—and I’ve never been more ready.
Together WE Thrive,
Lady Erin Love
